Darren from Common Sense Gamer has written an interesting article about how current current MMO games are going to cope with the launch of Warhammer Online. I thought that it would be fun to focus on Warhammer Online vs Everquest 2.
When Warhammer Online launches, it is going to get tons of attention. Many players who have been player Everquest 2 will give Warhammer Online a try. I have no doubt about that. Many EQ2 players have been playing Everquest 2 for over 2 years. If they are anything like me they are looking for something different.
In this regard I have to disagree with Darren. If Warhammer has a successful launch, it will take players from Everquest 2. That has to be the case. Don’t get me wrong, I am not stating that Everquest 2 will be a ghost town. Far from it. But, it will lose players.

Us MMO gamers tend to flirt with new MMORPGs all the time… To me, that indicates that there is no single game out there satisfying everyone’s needs. There are some die hards that will stick with an MMORPG forever, however, the majority of us have a more difficult appetite to satiate.
I don’t think that these games are supposed to satisfy a gamer’s needs for the long term. I love the game pitfall as a kid, but I eventually got bored with it. I think that is natural.
Well I can honestly say that Warhammer Online wont kill any of these games (look at some of the older games like the original EverQuest to see why) but they will surely take away a lot of players.
Seeing as Nagafen is the most popular PvP server on EQ2, and WAR is primarily a PVP (RVR) game I think you will see that server’s population dwindle, but the “blue” servers will see less of a drop.
